Disinfecting Delta
Now that the coronavirus delta variant is spreading and increasing cases at a worrying rate, we need to be prepared and continue to clean and disinfect as we’ve done for the past year and a half.
Targeted hygiene practices can go a long way to help to keep families safe. Following product use and safety information is critical. It’s important to make sure cleaning and hygiene precautions are being done correctly.
Handwashing
Still, proper handwashing is very important since it’s a critical step in preventing the spread of germs:
- Wet hands with water before applying soap.
- Lather both hands vigorously, the backs of your hands, between your fingers, under your nails, and each thumb as well.
- Clean hands for 20 seconds before rinsing.
Hand Sanitizer
Hand sanitizer will be useful as an alternative when soap is not available. Make sure it contains at least 60 percent alcohol.
- Squirt hand sanitizer on your hands.
- Rub hands together and apply the same cleaning ritual as with handwashing.
Disinfecting
Before we start disinfecting, we clean up dirt or grime on any surface while following guidelines to disinfect properly.
Kitchen:
- We clean and disinfect countertops, sink hardware, cabinet pulls, appliance handles, and cutting boards.
- We use dishcloths and you can wash them on the hot cycle. It is necessary to replace towels and dishcloths every day.
- We empty out any garbage. If it can be done daily, even better. You can spray trash cans with disinfectant.
- Kitchen sink strainers in the dishwasher and knobs in the oven are cleaned and disinfected as well as the sinks.
Bathroom:
- We always clean and disinfect bathroom faucets and handles.
- Spray the toilet and flush the handle with disinfectant or sanitizing wipes.
- We do not use towels or wash clothes twice so we can prevent the growth of germs.
- The bathtub or the shower is disinfected as well and all small details that come with that area like doors and handle, even curtains if they are machine washable.
